I’m not sure about you but I have fully had enough of this years weather so far when it comes to getting out on my bike!

I’m never really bothered by the weather as long as it’s not dangerous, my two big no-no’s though are ice and wind.

Ice obviously because hitting the deck when it is cold usually ends up with a broken bone of some kind. Wind because when you are out on the bike getting hit by an unexpected gust can end up with you under a car or truck (or some other hard, moving object).

So for the last 4 weeks I’ve been trapped in my gym, smashing out sessions on the Wattbike. Now, as much as I love my Wattbike (even though it’s not working at the moment). There is something special about getting out on the bike in the lanes that is good for the soul.

Bike riding has always been my escape, since I started racing when I was 12 (yes really) I spent as much time on my bike as I possibly could.

It helps me process life, deal with stress and focus on what is important.

One thing I have realised over the years is this – there is a specific day, every year that signals spring is just around the corner.

I can’t put my finger on what it is, I think it might be the tone of the light or maybe temperature slightly picking up. There is definitely something different though.

For this year, that day is TODAY, my ride in this morning was stunning, proper headwind the whole way but that feeling was there.

So let’s all get our fingers, toes and legs crossed in the hope that winter has finally started packing its bags and is on its way out!

1st race of the year this weekend so maybe it’s just in time!!
